An afternoon of kirtan; devotional call-and-response chanting, meditating and contemplating the many names and incarnations of Vishnu—the divine principle of preservation.Passion can create and anger can destroy, but preservation requires caring, tending, devotion and love. Through his various avatars, Vishnu embodies these qualities through various of roles and relationships: as the mischievous and playful child Govinda/Gopāla; as Krishna, the beloved and romantic companion of Rādhā; as Krishna, the friend, guide, and advisor of Arjuna; and as Rāma, the devoted husband, brother, and friend.By chanting these divine names, may we be reminded of the many forms of love present in our own lives, and of the different roles we play within those meaningful relationships. May we be inspired to preserve that which we love; to care for and tend to the relationships with those we deeply cherish and are devoted to, and to honour the sacredness of coming together in the practice of preserving love.
